Journey with Us Through Holy Week
Welcome to our Holy Week devotional journey-a sacred space where our church family walks together in reflection, remembrance, and hope. This page features a collection of heartfelt written devotionals alongside short teaching video reflections, each prepared by different members of Koinonia. Through their unique voices and perspectives, we are invited to slow down and enter the story of Jesus more deeply.
As you read and watch, we encourage you to prayerfully engage with each devotional, allowing the truths of Holy Week to resonate in your heart. From the triumphal entry to the cross, and ultimately to the joy of the resurrection, may these reflections draw you closer to Christ and prepare your spirit for our Resurrection Service.
Monday - The Cleansing King
by Shakia Clark
Scripture: Matthew 21:12–17
Theme: Jesus cleanses the temple.
Emphasis: God desires hearts of prayer, not empty religion.
When Jesus entered the temple and overturned the tables, we see Him show us an example of righteous anger. The temple was meant to be a place where every person, regardless of status or story, could encounter the living God. Instead, it had become a place of exploitation, distraction, and unnecessary noise. What was meant to draw people near had begun to push them away.
Jesus’ actions were a declaration that He cares deeply about His people and deeply about justice. In His righteous anger, Jesus wasn’t simply flipping tables; He was flipping the narrative. He was declaring that anything — that distorts God’s heart, harms His people, or crowds out genuine worship would not stand in His presence.
Once the clutter is cleared and the noise is silenced, something beautiful happens. We see the blind and the lame come to Him—and He heals them. Children lift their voices in pure, unfiltered praise.
When empty religion is pushed aside, true worship rises.
When obstacles are removed, healing flows freely. When distractions are cleared, joy finds its voice again.
And God still desires that kind of space in us today.
Prayer is not an accessory to the Christian life—it is the lifeline. It is through prayer that our hearts stay aligned with God’s character, our ears stay tuned to His voice, and our eyes stay open to the needs around us. Prayer keeps us tender where the world tries to make us numb, grounded where life tries to make us frantic, and centered where distractions try to pull us away.
As you think about your own life, what do you need to clear out to make room for the things that matter most?

Tuesday - The Teaching King
by Laura Kindell
Scripture: Matthew 21-25
Theme: Authority, parables, warnings, and readiness.
Emphasis: The King calls us to faithful obedience and watchfulness.
The King calls us to faithful obedience and watchfulness.
The snow melts, the sun lingers, spring comes again, and with the changing of seasons, we experience another reminder that time will continue to pass and change will come! As Jesus reminds his audience in Matthew 24, just as the fig tree provides signs that
summer is coming soon, with its twigs growing tender and its leaves starting to appear, so too are there signs that the Son of Man is coming soon.
As we walk through this season of Lent, we lament the brokenness in us and around us, and as we sit in the tension that Holy Week holds, we trust that death is not the end. This tension serves as a sign that all is not yet right.
May our lamenting be paired with longing for the promised New Jerusalem, where God will dwell among us and will make all things new (Revelation 21:1-5). May we work and witness and watch as we wait, living lives committed to that which Christ describes in Matthew 23 as “the most important matters of the law” – justice, mercy, and faithfulness (23:23). As we move through our daily lives, caught in the
middle of Christ’s work of redemption and His ultimate return, He encourages us to stay awake and be ready, following the example of the faithful and wise servant from Matthew 24:45-47, who goes forth each day faithfully doing the work entrusted to him.
May we follow Jesus in our daily lives, through our daily choices. Be still, take a slow breath, and reflect on these questions:
What do you anticipate this day will hold? Who will you encounter? What work is set before you to do? In what ways can you live out
the call to justice, mercy, and faithfulness today?
Jesus often taught through storytelling, with imagery his audience could picture, could feel, could connect with. As we meditate on Matthew 21-25 and as we experience whatever signs of changing seasons this day holds, may the Word of God center us and
guide us forward in dependence on Him and in obedience to His instruction – watching, working, and waiting for when Christ comes again!
Father, as we wait for the coming of Your Kingdom, help us to trust you more deeply. Christ, steady us and sustain us as we seek to obey your teachings: loving God and loving neighbor (Matthew 22:36-40), going and making disciples (28:18-20), and feeding, clothing, visiting with the least of these – serving others knowing we are serving unto You (25:31-46). Holy Spirit, open our eyes to the opportunities in this day to serve within our spheres of influence, to live out justice and mercy and faithfulness, and to wait with hope for our King, who’s words are trustworthy and true.
In Jesus’ Name, amen.
